What are Parenting Challenges?

Parenting is one of the most commonly discussed parts of life here at The Holding Space. All parents can use some help from time to time and there is no shame in asking for it! We are not born with an instruction booklet on anything, especially on how to parent another person in this world.

There are many challenges throughout the many years of parenting that a person will face and work through; let us help you. We truly understand the myriad of emotions that parents feel whether they have a highly functioning child or a child with multiple challenges or disabilities. Parenting is hard. We can help to soften the process.

Can Parenting Challenges be Experienced in Several Ways?

Goodness yes! Each parenting experience is unique and different. We are all unique human beings with our very own brains, life experiences, and filters that we experience life through. And so are our children. There are many factors in the relationship that you have with your child that creates your very own unique formula.

There is no right or wrong way to parent and no right or wrong way that your child responds. We can help you find ways to communicate with your child where you can meet each other in that beautiful middle space. We can also help you connect and relate with your preverbal child in their younger stages as early as a newborn baby. Every stage has its own challenges and every stage has its own magic.

What do Parenting Challenges

Look Like?

Parenting is not easy and we are here to help you with guidance, experience, reassurance, and validation. Many of the difficult common feelings that parents deal with are guilt, fear, anger, sadness, grief, and confusion. All of these are totally normal! It is OK to be angry at your child. It is OK to be scared of what they will do, say, and how the world will treat them. It is OK to not know what to do or how to do it. It is ok to want the best for them and appreciate their healthy individuation while also feeling sadness and grief in their advancement through their developmental stages.

If you have any of these experiences, you may want to consider therapy at our Los Angeles-based practice!

What Does Parenting Therapy Look Like?

Each parent has their own belief systems about parenting, whether conscious or unconscious. Every parenting has transgenerational systems, beliefs, and parenting that they received that has been passed down the lineage. We will explore what these familial systems have been, where your beliefs originated from, and what kind of parent that you WANT to be with your child.

Here at The Holding Space, we help you identify the challenges that are specific to you and your family. We offer an individualized, holistic approach to address them. This starts with welcoming our clients into a warm and accepting environment. We believe it is vital for creating the trust and safety needed for any therapeutic work. Once these requirements for the therapeutic relationship have been met, your therapist will begin the work with you. Not only to explore how your parenting challenges are impacting you in the present but also how they developed and are upheld. Your therapist may even blend different treatments with the goal of creating a better understanding of yourself. Through this, it will develop the ability to soothe yourself and build your solidness and confidence as a parent.
